Project Scope
- Upgraded 125 Ton Auxiliary Building Crane
- Installed AC motors for Bridge, Trolley, and Hoists
- Installed Magnetek AC VFDs for all functions (hoists, trolley, & bridge) Power Limit Switches
- Installed Main Power Disconnect Switch
- Installed Joy Stick Controllers for all functions
- Upgraded Cable Carrier System with new cables
- Installed Eddy Current Braking System for hoisting functions
- Installed Load Indicating System with readout in cab
- Installed new wire rope on main hoist drum
- Supervised Millwrights, Iron Workers, and Electricians in performance of project
Project Description
- Enhanced crane from analog to digital
- Increase reliability and reduce down time in support of refuel outages.
- Upgrade to support activities associated with Independent Spent Fuel Storage (ISFSI)
Challenges
- Coordination and execution challenges successfully met to refurbish the crane during the initial start-up of unit 2 and during normal plant operation of unit 1.
- Scope was safety related with the incumbent requirements
- Schedule – needed to get back online quickly and safely to support the NRC dry run schedule for Spent Fuel removal
